Joker: Death Dealers MC Read online

  “What?”

“What do you mean what? I’ve been leaning here for five minutes and you haven’t moved, or even noticed I was here. Got something, or someone, on your mind?”

I rolled my eyes and turned away from him, back to my work. “Oh shut the fuck up. What do you want me for?”

“Just came by to see if you’re ready for church tomorrow?”

Church is what we call our weekly meetings. Only patched in members of the Death Dealers get to sit at the table, but the Prospects keep watch on the gate and the bar area of the clubhouse. I put my pen down and look up at him. He never asks if I’m ready for church, it’s always just assumed that I’ll be good to go. I wonder if there’s something wrong that he wants to run by me beforehand. “Yeah I’m ready. Is there something going on that I should know about?”

Being the Vice President of the club it falls to me to be Beast’s sounding board. It helps that we grew up together so we know each other well.

“Nope, just the regular stuff from every week checking in.”

“Then what are you really doing here?” Oh for the love of God, he’s just here to give me shit. Griff must have texted him as soon as I came into my office.

I turn away and look back down at my papers. The problem is I’m pretty sure I know why he’s here. He’s noticed a change in me since I moved and saw Everly. She’s had me preoccupied. I haven’t been with any of the club whores since I saw her and I am usually with a different one every night, so that’s a definite change. The problem is, until I get in Red’s pants I can’t even think about being with anyone else. I’ve definitely had to take things into my own hands a few times a day if I’m honest with myself and I’m hoping to end that soon.

Beast stood up from the door jam and came to sit in front of my desk. “I just heard that you called in a tow with no name on the work order and wondered if your new neighbour might have something to do with that.”

Looking back up at him I could see the laughter in his eyes. Asshole. “Obviously you know it does or you wouldn’t be here giving me shit.”

“If I wasn’t going to give you shit, who would?”

“Yeah, I know.” With a sigh I lean back in my chair and put my hands behind my head, looking up at the ceiling. “I don’t know what to tell you man. I go into her bakery Sweet Devotions every morning and order a coffee and she shoots me down every time.”

“Well, she’s either a keeper or a tease, man.”

Sitting back up I look at him and shake my head. “Yeah, I’m trying to figure that out. Hopefully returning her car to her will get me in there.”

“Good luck.” He stands up and starts walking to the door.

  “Thanks. Anything else?”

“Nope, just wanted to drop by and give you shit!”

With a laugh he leaves the room and leaves me to my thoughts, which is not somewhere I want to be so I get up and go into the car bays to see if anyone needs help and to check on Everly’s car. I walk in and see all three bays are full with cars up on the hoists with more cars lined up outside. Business is good and that makes me smile.

I walk over to where my MC brother Ace is working on Everly’s car. He’s looking underneath the car, which has me confused, since the problem is under the hood.

“Hey Ace, what’s going on? Why you looking under this car? I thought it was the coolant bypass hose that was the problem?”

Ace stopped what he was doing and came out from under the car, wiping his hands on the rag he keeps tucked in his coverall pocket just for that purpose. “Hey Joker. Yeah man, it is the hose, but I’m just looking over the rest of the car. This thing is a piece of shit. It’s going to cost more to get it all fixed up than this thing is worth. Gonna have to give a call to the owner and give them a breakdown of what it’s going to take.”

“Don’t worry about calling the owner, just fix it all up and give me the work order when you’re done.”

“You got it boss.” He replies with a nod and gets back to work.

I walk back to my office, grab my keys to my Street Bob Softail Harley and head home.

I park in front of Everly’s house and walk up to her front door. I knock, but there is no answer.

Deciding I would see if she was out back enjoying the sunshine I head around the side of the house and what I see stops me in my tracks.

There she was, lying on a lounger with a black bikini and the best body I’d ever seen. Her clothes hinted at what she had hidden underneath, but I never would have guessed that her rack was that good. More than a handful, with a skinny waist, and legs that make you want to have them squeeze you while you pound her into the wall.

Glancing up her body from her toes to her face I stop at her lips, which are wrapped around a straw. Damn! My jeans are getting tight and I have to adjust myself.

She catches my movement out of the corner of her eye and chokes on her drink.

“Oh my God! You scared the shit out of me!!! What are you doing here?”

Chuckling I walk towards her with my hands up. “Sorry Red. I knocked on the front door and you didn’t answer so I thought I’d check the backyard. Just wanted to give you an update on your car.”

“Oh thanks, you didn’t have to do that. Is it out front? What’s the damage?”

I shook my head at her and leaned against the deck railing in front of her. “No, sorry it’s not out front. There was more wrong than we thought so it’s going to take a few more days to get some parts in and get it all fixed up”

“What?! What are you talking about?! Aren’t you supposed to call a customer and tell them what the problems are and how much it’s going to cost before you just do the work? I can’t afford a huge bill. I know there are some issues, but I was waiting a few months before getting it all done.”

“Don’t worry about it, it’s taken care of.”

“What do you mean it’s taken care of? You haven’t even told me how much it’s going to cost.”

“It’s on the house.” That got me a reaction. She was so sexy when she got mad. I need to rile her up more often.

Everly walked up to me and started pointing her finger into my chest to emphasize her point. “Oh no it’s not. You will give me a bill when you return my car to me and we will work out a payment plan since you didn’t give me an option before you just did the fixing.”

I grabbed her finger and held it to my chest so she’d stop poking me. “Seriously Red, it’s taken care of.”

She shook her head and looked up at me. “No, it’s not taken care of! I’ll just refuse to take the car back until I figure out how much it cost and pay you back.”

“Then how are you going to get to work?”

“Don’t worry about that, I’ll figure it out. I’m not your problem.” She pulled out of my grip and backed up a couple of steps so she wasn’t having to strain her neck looking up at me and stood there with her hands on her hips.

“I didn’t think you were my problem Red. I just wanted to help you out, but if you insist I’ll bring you a bill and I’ll give you a ride to and from the bakery until it’s ready for you.”

She let out a long breath and dropped her hands to her sides, her eyes focused on the ground in front of her. “Thank you, I appreciate it.”

“No problem, I’ll pick you up at 5:30 tomorrow morning and bring you in.”

  Chapter 3 – Everly

Oh my God, that man scared the shit out of me, but now that he’s gone I miss him. He makes me laugh and he makes me hot. That’s not a good combination because he has that bad boy thing going on too. I get up and walk inside my house to cool off. When I open the door my cell phone rings, it’s Brenna.

“Hey bitch, you didn’t call me!”

Brenna can always make me smile, but my smile quickly fell off my face. “Shit, I’m sorry I totally forgot. It was a weird morning.”

“What?! Why was it a weird morning? Everything okay? Are you home?” she exclaimed.

  I walked through my kitch
en and sat down on my couch, I needed to have a seat for this conversation. “Yeah, I’m sorry to scare you. I was sitting behind my car trying to not melt to death when a motorcycle pulled up. I stood up to check it out and it was Joker.”

“What?!” Shit she’s loud. I had to pull the phone away from my ear before she blew my eardrum out. “What are the chances of him showing up when you were in need?”

“I know right?” I leaned back on the couch and started rubbing my temples. This whole situation was messing with my head and I was getting a headache. “He took a look at my car, called for someone to pick it up sooner than AAA could and then offered me a ride home. I wasn’t sure I should do it, but I took the chance and went with him.”

“You rode on his bike? How was it? I’ve always wanted to take a ride on the back of a bike, it seems so fucking sexy.”

I chuckled at her, she speaks so quickly that when you first meet her not everyone can understand what she is saying. “Oh God, you have no idea. It was fantastic, the wind running over my face, the machine vibrating underneath me, my boobs squished against his back. Let’s just say, when I got home B.O.B. had a bit of a work out.”

“No doubt. After that conversation I might have to go have a date with my B.O.B. now too.”

I was starting to get hot just thinking about it all again. “Yeah, so I had a shower, got into my bathing suit and went out back to sit on the deck and get some sun. I was taking a sip of my drink when I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and it was him. I swear to God, I almost choked to death on my drink.”

“Oh my God, I would have loved to see the look on your face. Oh, oh, oh, and the look on his face must have been hilarious. Here you are in your bikini taking a sip of a drink and then all of a sudden you’re choking. So sexy!” She was laughing so hard she was having problems catching her breath.

“Oh kiss my ass woman,” I said with a grin, she can always make me smile. “I don’t know what to do about him. He told me there was a lot more wrong with my car than we thought and his mechanic is fixing it, but it’ll take a few days. I was so annoyed, I don’t have money for that and he had the balls to tell me it’s taken care of. Like I’m some little woman that needs him to help me out.”

“Oh please, give it a break. He was just trying to help you. How are you going to get to and from work? Did you need me to come get you in the morning? I take payment in the form of cupcakes or cookies.”

“Of course you do. You’d eat sugar all day long if I let you.”

“I like to keep my curves on point, come on now.” Brenna had some great curves and she knew how to work them.

“I do what I can to help you out with that friend. Don’t worry about a ride, Joker offered to take me.”

“And you accepted? You need to give in to that man honey. He’s the sexiest man I’ve ever seen, and if he gets you as hot as you tell me he does you need to let him in there and dust off the cobwebs.”

“I know, right?! It’s crazy. I’m just not sure if I’m ready for a one night stand with him.”

“Who says it’s going to be a one night stand?”

“Oh please, he’s totally a one and done kind of guy.” I scoffed.

“You don’t know that, he keeps coming around.”

“That’s because I’m a challenge. Let’s change the subject please. Want to come over for dinner tonight? I’ve got some steaks that I can put on the grill and do up some corn on the cob, potato salad, and some other things.”

“Sounds great, make sure there’s dessert!”

I chuckled. Brenna loved dessert. “Of course there will be dessert. I’ll see you around 6. Love ya.”

“See you at 6. Love ya, too.”

  Chapter 4 – Joker

Sitting on my new porch with Beast drinking a couple of beers we watch as the prospects cut my lawn and clean our bikes. It’s a rite of passage for every prospect who comes through the club. They get to do all the shitty jobs to help prove their worth and the longer they’ve been with the club the more responsibility they get. Only once it’s deemed that they are trustworthy and will go to the grave with any and all club secrets are they voted in as a fully patched member. It takes a minimum of one year, and for some it can take even longer. Griff is getting close to the one year mark and we will be voting on his patch very soon. The other two prospects, Kevin and Nick, don’t have road names yet because they have just started prospecting and haven’t been given theirs yet.

“So, what’s going on with you and the hot neighbour? It’s not like you to just fix up cars for free, and it sure as hell isn’t a way to earn money for the club.”

I look at Beast out of the corner of my eye and shake my head. “I don’t know man. I saw her when I first moved in and I just met her a week ago at her bakery, but I can’t stop thinking about her. I know, I sound like a pussy, but it’s true. I’ve asked her out every day and she keeps turning me down. Maybe I just need to get her out of my system and then I’ll be over her, but until that happens nothing else will do.”

“Wow, the great and powerful Joker was turned down? When was the last time that happened?”

“Ya, ya, I know. It never happens, but maybe this one is different. I just need to have her for one night and then I’m sure I’ll be back to normal.”

“Well then I guess you’ll just have to up your game.”

“I’m working on it man. Why do you think I’m keeping her car for longer? That way I take her to and from work and can break her down.”

  “Sneaky bastard!”

As we were laughing, a beautiful matte black Dodge Charger with tinted out windows pulled up outside of Everly’s house. It made us stop what we were doing and watch as a short, stacked woman with jet black hair got out and sauntered up to the front door.

Beast let out a low whistle and took his sunglasses off to look at her. “Phew, who the hell is that?”

“Not sure, but I think we should go check it out.”

He stops staring and turns to look at me with a look of shock on his face. “What? I thought you were interested in the bakery lady?”

I smile and take a sip of my beer before replying. “Oh I am, but that just happens to be her house that your mystery woman walked into.”

“Oh, ho, isn’t that interesting. Are you turning into a stalker now? Getting that desperate?”

“Happy coincidence my man, happy coincidence.”

We get up from our chairs and walk across the street to Everly’s house to check out the situation. We saw the friend walk through the back gate so instead of knocking on the front door and perhaps have Everly refuse to answer the door, we decided to just go through the back gate and see what was going on. As we walk through we see Everly at the BBQ putting some food on while her friend sits in a deck chair drinking a cider.

I decide to make my presence known and get a little rise out of Everly at the same time. “Well hello lovely ladies, how are you doing over here?”

“Jesus Christ Joker, you scared the crap out of me! What the hell are you doing just coming into my backyard?”

“Well we saw this strange woman sneaking into your backyard and we just wanted to make sure that you were okay and not being murdered.”

“Sure you were. I’m guessing you just can’t take no for an answer and saw my friend Brenna and used it as an excuse to come over and harass me again about going out.” She shook her head and went back to the BBQ, pretending to ignore me.

“Oh Red, you wound me. I was just trying to protect you. Come on now, the least you could do is invite us over for a beer and dinner. We were just trying to do a good deed.”

“Oh that’s a good one Ev. You always make enough food for an army, you should just invite them over and put the poor man out of his misery.”

Everly turned from the BBQ with the spatula in her hand and started waving it around at Brenna. “I thought you were supposed to be on my side? You’re my best friend.”

“Yes, and as your best friend it’s
part of my job to make sure you get laid regularly.”

“Holy shit Joker, I think I’m in love” laughed Beast.

Brenna turned to Beast and gave him the once over. “Oh honey, you can’t have me. I’m too much woman for you.”

“We’ll see about that baby girl, we’ll see.”

Shaking my head at Beast and Brenna I walk up to the BBQ to see what Everly is cooking. Looks like she had some steaks on the grill and they smelled delicious.

“Want some help with that Red?”

  “What, since I’m a girl I can’t grill?”

“Don’t get defensive. I didn’t say that, just trying to offer assistance.”
